Is there a rival for KidPix?

There is a move to change our computer lab to terminal services but Kid Pix doesn't work with terminal services. At least, I don't think it does.If you use Kid Pix, do you know of any software that would rival KidPix?Thanks,StacySee More

We are looking to order an IPOD learning lab for next year. I went to the Apple conference last month in Hamilton and demoed the unit and the experience was awesome. Check out the price and specs here: http://education.apple.com/ipod_learning_lab/

Thanks Warren. I would be interested in his observations. I will try to visit him @ BSS in the New Year.

Hi Jonathan, This is a bit larte in the game but maybe contact Vince Delisi at The Bishop Strachan School. He did go to England to visit a school that uses the touch for the students. Regards, Warren

Writing takes Time; Time takes Writing

I teach a writing class to seventeen-year-old students. As they are handpicked for the course, they tend to be competent writers. Some are very good writers; others have the potential to be professional writers. I am not a professional writer, but I do know a thing or two about the craft of writing. Having been an avid reader most of my life and an English teacher for twenty-three years, I possess some relevant knowledge. Although I am not a fuddy-duddy grammarian, I do respect the conventions… Continue

iPod Touch Pilot in the classroom

Is anyone instituting iPod Touch in the classroom or piloting it right now?

I am investigating handhelds in particular the iPod Touch.

I wish it had a GPS, (unlike the iPhone) so we can offer orienteering and geocache activies. It would fit nicely with our outdoor component and integrate into the curriculum well.

What I do have so far is the ability to navigate and subscribe to Apple's Podcast server and a TI83 calculator emulator. The TI 83 emulator, used by… Continue

LCC moving on to MACs

We (Lower Canada College) finally made the decision to move our senior school onto a MAC platform. We are all very excited about this decision and faculty and students are looking forward to work with them. Rather than saying we are now a MAC school we prefer to describe our program as an open platform model.

Since we have our middle school on PCs as well as our junior school we are hosting a mixed platform environment. Our plan is to move gradually everything onto a Web portal so… Continue

Canadian Education

Having perused the NAIS site recently (and it's a fabulous resource), I started to think about how Canadian independent schools differ from American independent schools. Of course, many attributes are the same: high academic standards, rigorous and challenging programme, attentive faculty, extensive athletics program, leaderhsip opportunities, community service programme, embracing diversity, global awareness. So, maybe there isn't a difference between Canadian independent schools and American… Continue
